Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Russia has welcomed US President Donald Trump's new National Security Strategy, calling it "largely consistent" with Moscow's vision.

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

I think banning it would be bad, because:
1. It would backfire domestically
2. It would backfire HUGELY internationally
3. Democratic governments shouldn’t ban social platforms.

BUT: they really, *really* should stop using it.
genuinely hard to think of another single move the UK govt could do that would do as much good as banning twitter. it's the poison at the root of so much ill

Suspect lots of people here don't realise how big a deal Kirk was on TikTok in the UK. Twins have seen loads of videos about him (mostly him being "owned" by progressive students). Lots of chat about it already on their WhatsApps. Much more so than anything in UK politics.

Giving Peter Mandelson a major diplomatic position was always going to end in disaster.

Mandelson is undoubtedly talented, but he has persistently shown extremely poor judgment and a magnetic attraction to wealth and power.

Making him Ambassador was another predictably bad appointment by Starmer.

While the US institutions and courts have been incredibly weak in Trump's second terms, the UK constitutional system is so much more open to a government to disregard democratic norms. Our main hope of protection by 2029 is public/social attitudes - before the election, rather than afterwards.
Given that Reform are clearly importing a lot of their agenda and messaging from Americ, there really should be more robust questioning of why there won’t be the same sort of democratic erosion here in the UK.

I've seen the 'Not sufficiently anti-war' reviews and personally don't think it matters. There is enough here to make anyone think critically about war.
