The short answer is "Rome is a proxy for power".

The history of how Rome has become both a recognised and malleable proxy for power is v interesting (again, please read the book!) but the important bit, I think, is this.

The EHRC guidance isn't just aggressively anti-trans, it's also actively authoritarian and openly anti-LGBTQ+, attempting to break LGBTQ+ freedom of association.

Day 6 of the #Turkey protests. This is from the Istanbul Teknik University Maçka.

Security locked the doors of the building to prevent the students from joining the demonstration outside.

Students started to climb out of the windows to join the protests.

Thousands have taken to the streets again in #Istanbul to protest against the regime and demonstrate their support for İmamoğlu.

This is the fifth night of the protests. There are harsh crackdowns and protest bans, yet the turnout remains very high.
