I have created a website called The Naval Data Base https://hush.web.fc2.com. I am a 66-year-old pensioner living in Japan; I have lived in the blue sky since 18 November 2024.

My speciality is the origin of ship names, and my original speciality is ancient Japanese literature.
I am also familiar with naval history, etc., but I am not a specialist.
Today is a perfect day for viewing the autumn leaves.

The name of this ship translates to “lecher” in Japanese.
Consequently, the city name from which it derives is extremely well-known amongst a very small segment of the Japanese population.

This is the Queen after whom the ship was named.
Born as a granddaughter of Queen Victoria of the UK, she was named Eua at birth, but was mistakenly christened Ena at her baptism, hence she was commonly known as Princess Ena.

Yu Shan is the highest mountain in Taiwan at 3,952 m.
During the Empire of Japan's rule in Taiwan, the mountain became known as Mt Niitaka ("New High Mountain") because new surveying showed that it was 176 m higher than Mt Fuji in the Japanese archipelago.

Coincidentally, November in the Japanese lunar calendar is Shimotsuki (the month of frost), just like in the French Republican calendar.
Perhaps it would be better to tell people who watch my Blue Sky that this is the origin of the destroyer Shimotsuki.

It may not seem strange when you look at his biography, but I think it's very rare for a living entertainer's name to be used on a warship en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Bob_... .

Ginkgo trees have been growing all over the world for 270 million years and currently only remain in the wild in China, although they were introduced to Japan around the 12th or 13th centuries and have since grown all over the country.
The tree in the photo is said to be over 300 years old.
