My work on small beer. The first time I discovered an actually *new thing* in historical beer, and the piece was illustrated with my own linocuts, in the main.

I loved writing it and was, and still am, so proud of it. A proper mash up of all my favourite things - beer, history and art.

Whiled away a good hour with complete strangers, one of them also a homebrewer as it turned out, over a few very fresh Päffgen Kölsch.

Brouwerij de Molen is closing down per 1 September. I wonder if they will still organise a last edition of their Borefts festival.

It's crazy to see such a craft giant fall; especially since they are owned by Swinckels group (Bavaria).

Cask Bitter, Refreshed for the 21st Century

It's been a while since I shared this, there must be some more breweries joined by now?

Fresh homebrewed Saison with rare French hop, Petit Blanc, raw wheat and barley, and fermented with the Dupont strain. Pleasantly fruity, spicy, dry and bitter.

New yeast phylogeny paper out, and this is by far the biggest yet, with 3034 yeast strains divided into no less than 39 groups in 4 supergroups. Lots of information to unpack here, and also some disappointments.
