This is the biggest attack on free speech since the McCarthy era but it also has significantly less popular consensus behind it than the second Red Scare. It's being done on behalf of a minority faction led by the most unpopular president in modern history. Organizing against this can win.

Theory (ignoring the fact that the GOO never want another election). The GOP gerrymander helps Democrats in the midterms by forcing more Democratic primaries eliminating a lot of schumerjefferiesstaletoast and making unpopular republicans run in districts that they do not entirely know.

I do not typically point people to the Bulwark but this article raises the interesting point that The NY Times is garbage at the moment partially because it can be, thanks to Jeff Bezos and Shill Lewis

The Washington Post is dying. I can tell you “how.” But not “why.”
Is Jeff Bezos killing the newspaper on purpose or by accident?

Seriously considering changing my party registration based on Swalwell, Gillibrand, and Jeffries. As a jew I do not feel that Democratic Party leadership represents me. If I was a NYer I would have voted for Mamdani in the primary.

I have varied opinions on AI but I need someone to explain to me how, when OpenAI is convicted for copying dark web libraries of copyrighted material to their servers — how is any of what they produced using those materials not covered? Wouldn’t a conviction impact any use of those materials.

The Minnesota assassin appears to be a hate-filled right winger. So can we stop walking on eggshells about MAGA's legitimization of political violence?

Yes, Republicans have also been the target of inexcusable violence, but this isn't a "both sides" issue.

@cnn.com devoting a ridiculous amount of time to coverage of damage in Israel and a little bit of time to damage in Iran. And if this was in Gaza (or almost anywhere else outside of the west) CNN would not cover it at all.

Had a good walk in Philly today.
Saw this

Great crowd. City did a good job. Not a lot of cops. Good protection of the route.

Next time bigger screens with more height and better sound system

I'm sorry but the largest protest of my lifetime is not the 7th or 8th biggest news story in the country behind "what does Gen Z want from Instagram?" This shit is humiliating. Rearrange your layout to meet this moment. Omitting the thing happening in every American city is malpractice.

The newsletter thing is just the dumbest most unworkable thing in that it obviously implodes because only so many people can afford to subscribe and it closes off information from a lot of people who might consume it if it was part of a newspaper. If ever aggregation had a victim it is substack.

Something I hope everyone covers this tomorrow notes is that...the President has no authority whatsoever to make trade deals without congress. None. Not even the pretext of one.
New: Trump is expected to announce on Thursday that the US will strike a trade deal with the UK, according to a person familiar with the matter, the first agreement for the administration since it imposed sweeping tariffs against its trading partners last month @theguardian.com story TK

At some level it is worth noting that Jill Stein makes Jeremy Corbyn look like a political genius. And I love Corbyn as a poliitical philosopher. He is more consistent than Bernie. But Jill Stein and the American Green Party are the Washington Generals. A political party whole game plan is loosing.

A modest request:

In reports about Trump's endless, lawless exec orders, maybe point out that he *does not have* legal power to do these things.

Trump did not "make it official" or "make good" on this bullying, as @semafor.com contends. He has ZERO official power to do this.
