Hey. You have to be nice to me: I have undiagnosed adulthood.

Upgrades I'm considering:
• Bigscreen beyond 2E, still very custom TPU print centric.
• Shiftall Meganex 8K, uses a custom compositor for some reason.
• Pimax Air, requires PiMax Play? What is that?

It's very difficult to choose an upgrade from a Valve Index because:
• Nearly everything is technically an upgrade because it's so dated.
• Most people's frame of reference is something much newer.
• Choices differ depending on whether you want to keep using the Valve controllers and base stations.

Tis the season when every restaurant you've ever ordered from begs you to buy a gift card so they can balance their books. If they give you kickbacks ($10 credit on a $100 gift card) you are technically giving them a loan on which they are paying you interest.

It must be nice to frequently have ideas that are worth keeping — or conversely it must be horrible to need to be able to record responsibilities instantly. Either way it's not for me.
We just launched a new product - Pebble Index 01

It's a small ring, with a button and mic. Press the button, talk and it saves your thought.

I use it many times during the day to jot down reminders, todos, book recs, etc while my hands are full.

Just $75 - preorders on rePebble.com/index

I don't want to tell you that I'm out of ideas, so I'll just think it very loudly.
a man in a military uniform has medals on his chest
Alt: Steve Martin making an exaggerated thinking gesture, followed by an exaggerated "don't know" gesture. He's in what appears to be a high ranking armed forces dress uniform with lots of medals. It's probably from The Jerk but I'm not sure.

Are you implying the monkey's-paw price for immortality is having to have an AI slop call with an elderly woman for all eternity?

Hard pass.

Cooling issues are far from the only reason that datacenters in space is a stupid idea: Maintenance and upgrades are effectively impossible. If your space datacenter could benefit from new GPUs, no it can't. What it launched with is what it has until it burns up in the atmosphere.
Just because it's being passed around a lot: NO, data centers in space do NOT benefit from space being cold. Space is cold in the formal sense we use to define temperature. But it is very bad at cooling. What would you rather have to cool hot metal: a lukewarm water tub or a giant cold atmosphere?

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (Wars nor Trek), LOTR, or Marvel.

Fortunately it's "Space" Mutiny, not "Star" Mutiny so it wins on a technicality.

I feel bad for people who have never used a stacked washer dryer. They've never known the joy of opening the dryer and getting hot moneyshot of fabric all over their chest.

Society is a construct. You can just ask someone to do a ska cover of Faith of the Heart and they'll say "$300 please" and you give it to them and then you have it.

Everyone, give

The full chart of interaction "techniques" and "methods" that @defunctland.bsky.social lays out are shown together at timestamp 4:11:50. The "techniques" are the most interesting part to me:
- Railroading
- Soft correction
- Stimulus diversions
- Escape lines
- Blame absorption

Holy effing god. The latest @defunctland.bsky.social video is incredibly well researched and SUPER interesting to me, since I am very interested in interactive narratives. It's also a jaw dropping FOUR HOURS (and 18 minutes) LONG. No wonder I wasn't able to watch it in one sitting.
