There are quality of life improvements here and there. There are opportunities to convert your soulslike (read: losable) currency into items that can be redeemed for a slightly lower amount of currency, allowing you to preserve it when dealing with challenging areas.

But: outside of the questionable difficulty pacing and design there’s still so much to love. I find repeated quick hops to be adorable and somehow they make run backs more fun. And I have to cackle when I suffer an embarrassing death while frazzled and impatient.

I felt Hunter’s March was out of place in terms of difficulty and it highlighted questionable design choices to me. The gateway was a simple yet punishing (2 mask damage, something that used to be reserved for optional and endgame bosses in the original) boss.

The combat and movements feel more acrobatic and fluid than the first game’s Knight which is exactly what you’d expect from the original Hornet boss battles. I love seeing the details of all the various rapid motion animations which ooze style.
