This is 15 yr old Elizabeth Eckford on her walk to Little Rock Central High. Eisenhower sent the army to protect Elizabeth and 8 other students. At the end of that year AR chose to shut down all public schools instead of integrating. When states are in control of public ed this is what happens.

I’m an introvert. There are several introverts in this group who took to a street in downtown Lexington. We are going to have to get used to protesting, get used to campaigning, get used to being uncomfortable.

Former KY Poet Laureate Frank X Walker spoke to my AP African American Studies and KY Studies classes. He has recently published a book of poetry on USCT. His poetry is very accessible for students. We were so blessed that he gave us his time and expertise.

I was also fascinated with the session Evil Education. It was about an interdisciplinary course that combines psychology and Holocaust studies. I brought back info for our AP Psych teacher.
