Imagine it's me in this SNL sketch not BÖC and Christopher Walken is a voice in my head as I was writing my book. And instead of saying "More cowbell" that voice was saying "More commas." Then you will understand the experience I'm having reading page proofs and trying to figure out what went wrong.

hollykruse.com is back. There's nothing there yet except for links to my books on publisher webpages: @mitpress.bsky.social, @politybooks.bsky.social (sort of) & Peter Lang.

There's nothing about my dogs or horse(s), which is a sure sign that this website is totally a work in progress 🚧.

If you're tagged in the comments, you may be contacted with a request to blurb this book, thanks to the monster list I provided, and for that I'm sorry. I think? Remember that "no" is a complete sentence. But you're all so awesome that I had to include you.

No Other Land doesn't have a US distributor, but you can see it in Tulsa at the indie cinema.

You can subscribe to Wired for a mere $10 for the first year. Just FYI.

In these times, I thought that it might be a good idea to share a photo of a very good boy, Semper Fi.

I am the voice of my generation, after all. 30 years ago, a person who wrote a terrible headline for my letter to the Washington Post editor said so 😂. And I had, like, one thought.

Thanks for this! I've not faced nearly these demands at my job, but it sure made me recall my happy cervical spine surgery time 3 yrs ago; but also learning I'd been I'd been appointed to the grueling uni assessment committee with no discussion after the 2 men in my dept had been asked & refused.

Andy Williams, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Bing Crosby are all currently in the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100. The streaming era is wild. I'm trying to decide which juxtaposition I'm enjoying the most, and I think that it's this one.

Stolen from Richal's FB page, and I can't remember what she named this guy who was born last month, but here he is. Or was. Fresh out of the womb, including with umbilical cord.

Sometimes I, a frantic-book-writing end-of-sabbatical hermit, do leave home to commune with Semper Fi.

Google Gemini just told me that after the Joe Rogan Experience, the following were among the most popular podcasts among male listeners. Once again I had to respond to tell Google Gemini that it's trash. Our AI overlords have got to step it up.

OMG, PEOPLE! My birthday and Christmas are coming up. I think you know what to do!!!

(Seriously, if I had the kind of money that allows you to spend $75 on a framed dancing bear print, I would 100% do it. Because I am that stupid.)

Over 30 years ago, I wrote the near-legendary & fun-for-me paper "Disney Dogs: Canines in the Spaces of Capitalism." Presented it at ICA in 1991. Journal editors liked it but said it didn't fit their journals. Yesterday I learned of the new International Journal of Disney Studies. Guess what I did.

This ad isn't as fun, but it's from 1916, so presumably in the public domain, and very relevant to my book content. What's the Automatic Electric Company* going to do? Sue me?

(*It's probably a part of AT&T today, so yes?)

More mainstream, but I saw 1989's Longtime Companion in an indie theater in a college town when it came out, and it was truly affecting: and ages before Philadelphia.

Does anyone have experience publishing old ads in your scholarly books? Permissions needed? I've avoided it by describing ads (for the early phonograph, for 1980s home computers, for pneumatic tubes), but this 1947 ad is hard to pass up. From a website that collects & posts old phone ads.
