So I made a 'prefab shotgun' that fires prefabs into the world. Not just for vegetation. A couple of these and blammo: Vegetated.

That your game doesn't have to look pretty from every angle. Only from the angle the player can actually see.

I've worked with hammer, though I did more in qeradiant. Very different method for a very different generation of engines.

Sometimes I just think it's helpful to see these 'behind the scenes' looks for up and coming indies. So they realize that yes, it really can be that messy and that it's all faked.

There are tools for unity that will carve away all the invisible bits of the mesh but for the triangles we're pushing in this game, they aren't really worth it. ID and Unreal both do a much better job built in but the unity model of course is to sell higher levels of function through the app store.
