He/Him

Writer, teacher, baker, reader, not necessarily in that order.
I often find myself saying "Good advice!" because of the line "Do not touch Willie... Good advice!"
what's the stupidest/randomest Simpsons quote that lives in your head rent free? Mine is the urge to say "you said go to bread" every time I am about to head to bed.

Funny how the phrase "take me to your leader" conveys precisely the same meaning but vastly different connotations to the phrase "I demand to speak to the manager"

So even cooler now. Nice.
I used to be so cool and now I'm rearranging my cat's food in his bowl for easier access bc he doesn't see so good and I want him to have every bite

I moved from coffee to tea because my blood pressure is too high.

Pluses: teas come in a variety of delightful flavors, and it makes every morning a little bit more fun

Minuses: less caffeine

What a time to be alive. At least it's also going to be unbearably hot this summer.

Just finished Citizen Sleeper, and let me tell you: if you haven't played it yet, go for it. 10/10 story. Not much to speak of by way of gameplay, but if you enjoy a well crafted story of humanity overcoming adversity caused by capitalism, this won't steer you wrong.

This happens to me constantly, and the new scene is rarely better than the OG
My absolute favourite moment in a self-edit read-through. "Ah crap, I really need a scene between these two characters to resolve this thing," and then discovering you already wrote it a chapter later.

What a rotten week. On the plus side, our cat has been extra sweet. Always a plus.

Got through the first round of edits on this new middle grade project. Always nice when my work isn't unbearable to read.

"Essential reading."

Oh my heart. Thank you John Yu Branscum for taking the time to read SILK & SINEW and write such a stunning review-- for sharing these stories and my writing with your fabulous students. What shining souls they are. It was a delight to be invited to spend time with them!

Just walked a 2.5 mile loop in about 40ish minutes. First time I walked this loop, it took me well over an hour and I was totally whipped. Today, this walk has me feeling pretty refreshed.

Fitness is different in your 40's, but I think I like it.

Trying to spin up the energy to start more edits on my latest writing project. I'm enjoying the process, I'm just super low on energy.

Finally got around to watching Top Gun Maverick. It was alright. Disappointed there was no "Maverick watches the new guys sing 'You've lost that lovin feelin' and realizes what a dork he was" moment.

Some of the best Warhammer players in the world are boycotting a championship in the U.S. over our embrace of fascism. One Belgian player cited specifically legal actions against trans people as one reason he will not participate.

Nice to see.

I finished the first draft of a 55k word project on Friday. Definitely needs work but it's definitely a good feeling.

A review of A Daughter of Fair Verona, by Christina Todd, a delightful tribute to Shakespeare (among other things).
A Daughter of Fair Verona, by Christina Todd
A review of "A Daughter of Fair Verona" by Christina Todd, a reimagining of Romeo & Juliet where R&J survive the play and have a family together. Their daughter Rosaline gets involved in a murder mystery, as well as romantic entanglements around Verona.

I’ve interviewed a lot of victims stayed in an abusive relationship because they worried their loved ones would judge them for not leaving sooner. They needed support and they knew they would get ridicule instead.

And that’s something I’m thinking about a lot in this political environment.

Tesla is taste-testing our library booksale haul. I also got a "Virginia is for Readers" t-shirt. Very nice distraction from the chaos

Printing out rejections and hanging them on my dry erase board really does take some of the sting off it. I thought Stephen King was just saying stuff.
