Canadian news columnist, author, feminist, bookish person, centre-left. Am considering a Substack while I re-read Infinite Jest about screens that become drugs, and not even pleasurable drugs at that.
This is the size of Trump's new Reich Chancellery to be built by hostess gifts from the usual MAGA suspects plus Silicon Valley bros on whose tech we all rely. It's so big it could easily take in the White House and West Wing if there were, say, a big plumbing mishap. Photo via @us.theguardian.com

Here's a Claerwen James painting to illustrate a gratitude list column. Hard times for women, hard times for everyone but some people can be just great. www.thestar.com/opinion/star...

Hey, I told the UN people, look at my Trump bathroom reno, even the soap dish is downhill, so they tossed his contractor bid, he’s still mad and that’s why the world has gone to war, life is funny. Jeez, look at that wall spackle, they did the sealant with their fingers.

Today I’m mostly reading the Framley Examiner, the greatest local paper in the history of Framley local papers. Thursday news: cyclists irate. #BobOdenkirk

Did a collage after an 2016 Amsterdam vacation mostly spent in the Rijksmuseum. Today I realize why the figure in the upper left-hand corner is screaming. It only took me nine years to find the bee.

Okay, this is the two B.C. hate-crime men in THEIR pants. I don't they should be charged for wearing these pants. I hate their pants though. Is that a crime? My section editor got all upset when I wanted to write a column about men's pant crimes but you see what I mean.

I give you Dr. Tobias Funke, the bluest of men.

Okay, Blueskyers, I'm off to the west-end Bloor subway in Toronto for a doctor's appointment. This sex attacker who has been out and about my area on the weekend seems to be waiting to meet the right woman. He's found two already. He looks nice! Am dressed for androgyny on hottest day of the year.

Here, have some sweet peas. Today is one scary day. Did you ever think it would get this bad.

Life has many worthwhile aspects, I am told.

Toronto flower market today next to where the old asylum was. No idea what good Americans will endure in the streets today.

OMG. Trump a bridge too far. But he could still cover his horrendous mistake with the German chancellor. “But Herr Merz, your last hopes were already dashed by the Ardennes offensive. I read it in current edition of Scary History magazine last night as I prepped for our meeting! Do you subscribe?”

Omar El Akkad’s new book, followed by Girl on Girl, a great book on young women betrayed, is coming up. When you’re too troubled, read Zola. Everything was awful+ no antibiotics.

Hey, what is this? It’s got different stuff in it. How much stuff? A whole bunch, I don’t know. What is it?

I grew up in Kapuskasing, a northern Canadian town that was GM's cold-weather testing centre. Here's how not to be a hick Greenland colonial: Usha, zip up that parka. JD, size down and get your hands out of your teenage jean pockets. And do these people think they're camouflaged? Also mittens.

A fresh exciting view of my love, the Mont Saint-Michel of melting Toronto snowbanks at King and Yonge. Much reduced in size this morning, eternal in attitude. Snow, oil, garbage, dog leavings, intense city dirt. My heart is light, my dear craggy creature.

A Toronto snowbank in all its ratty post-melt and re-freeze glory today, dirty Canadian coaster glued together with old plastic bags and buttered with grime. Yonge and King St. This is the mood we’re in.

Still in love with Dupont Station, the mosaics so pretty that no other TTC station could live up to it.

Political books stacked in my living room because there’s no room. Check them. How many have just been rendered irrelevant in our time.

Great Reuters shot of two big strong dudes helping female passenger jump out of the crashed flipped Delta plane at Toronto's Pearson airport. Guys are great, says this feminist columnist, good work, adorable, fabulous, etc.

I don't want to be unfair or unreasonable but can Liberal hopeful Mark Carney really be an "outsider" if his signature is on our $20 bills? (see lower left) I am confident of the independence of @chrystia-freeland.bsky.social, unsure about this. It's odd is all I'm saying.
