I used to live in Abbey Wood, and the Liz Line revolutionised travel and transport for the area (eg. a trip to central london went from 60 minutes to 20). Even *on* the train, people were complaining about there being "too many people now"

Healthcare, social assistance, asylum – being a journalist in Britain is, for the most part, shaping the offical narrative to why people should live in worse conditions and be even more miserable. And if you're really lucky you might get a Press Award at the end of it

Final point on this, but anyone whose ever tried to pitch something to the BBC will tell you how much of a fucking nightmare the whole process it is, how much you are deeply deeply patronised, strung along etc. only to then be told they can't afford to do it

Even the flagship news shows on the BBC are just talkshows for the most part! And, unfortunately, this is not something that can be fixed with another podcast series hosted by Amol and/or Romesh

As a result + the BBC's aversion to risk means that so much of what passes for cultural output in this country seems to just be news and gameshows. You have to make a real, conscious effort to discover new music, tv and film being made in the UK that shapes a national story

Yeah this ultimately makes sense in that if anyone is a Raas al Ghul character it probably is Paul Marshall

No mainstream media figure is ever going to acknowledge what’s happening publicly, not because of fear of reprisal but bc when you dig deep enough you’ll have to also acknowledge who all your friends actually are

Hm yeah. I wonder why no government minister or figurehead has tried to counter increasingly far right narratives putting citizens in danger. I’m sure it has nothing to do with how transient their power is in practice.

Also really love the idea that men are so concerned with wanting to appear intellectual that they've picked up popular self-help books for the purposes of being photographed. A lot of different layers going on here
