Friday evening, on a road trip with my best bud, radio playing Dreams by Fleetwood Mac.

This life is hard.
This life is exhausting.

It is also damn beautiful.

I've come to the conclusion that podcasts are oversaturated.
It's just podcasters talking to each other on each other's podcast and the number of discount code links is telling me that they are more interested in $$ than anything else.
I'm grateful I'm sticking with books.

Cancer drug Revlimid has its origin in a pill that cost patients $7.50 each.

Decades later, Revlimid costs more than $18,000 for a month’s supply...

Even though it still only costs about 25 cents to manufacture.

The Price of Remission
When I was diagnosed with cancer, I set out to understand why a single pill of Revlimid cost the same as a new iPhone. I’ve covered high drug prices as a reporter for years. What I discovered shocked ...

A big part of the problem is stupid people have been convinced by rich people that AI is God, when AI is closer to an automatic dog food dispenser.

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

They all four know a good deal how the federal government works. They could come out and explain what these agencies do, why they were created, and talk about the people who work for them. Humanize it.

Instead crickets.
“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." As the foundation of #democracy in America crumbles and the vulnerable are under attack from a rogue administration, we, the people, are asking our former presidents to "Say something!”

This is why Democrats lose.
When in power they do govern but also wring their hands over major changes required.
Out of power they tell us what should be done that they didn’t do.
In his farewell address, Biden calls for:

An end to dark money

18 year term limit on Supreme Court Justices and ethics reform

A ban on stock trading in Congress

Amending the Constitution to say no president is immune from crimes committed in office

Judith Butler is 100% correct. The word "woke" is pure reactionary bullshit. Its contemporary meaning also distorts history by making it seem as if every positive cultural change of the past 200 years has happened naturally, without agitation by people considered, at the time, dangerously "woke."

I think it’s possible and reasonable to say Trump is not the standard bearer of what is just and right, and still be able to say Biden reneged on a vow and is rightfully criticized for it. Holding the folks you agree with accountable is hard but necessary.

As with so many challenges, we have the answer and the ability to solve problems.

We lack the will.
1. The conventional explanation for food deserts—that these places are too poor or too rural to generate enough spending on groceries, or too Black to overcome racist corporate redlining — fail to grapple with a key fact: food deserts didn’t used to exist. My new piece in The Atlantic.
