Yes, indeed. Not all papers will accept more than just a few layers before pigments start to get moved around. A paper with really good sizing is a boon for this. The staining capacity of pigments themselves also play a part.

I think I have newer readers here than elsewhere. I generally use traditional Chinese brushes for both drawing (in ink) and painting.
