I love the Emperor Jahangir's description of the turkey, then a completely novel creature to the Mughal Court.

English translation from the original Persian by Alexander Rogers and Henry Beveridge.

I beg your pardon?

Autumn Leaf 3
Watercolour, approximately 80 × 132 mm.

I lost my way with this one. The extent of the rust spots were paving my way to overworking even without my own blundering, and I of course walked merrily -- and then tearfully -- right into it.

Good morning. Jack Frost has been.

Glazing in watercolour. The first brush is clean water; the second, paint. Both are stroked very gently on.

Sitting in the small hours in my pyjamas, wrapped in a shawl, freezing my toes off, and painting things in red and gold while listening to Bach's Jesu, meine Freude. Why, it feels like Christmas already. 😬

Anchiornis. Detail from a drawing from 2019.

A new paper by Kiat et al indicates that Anchiornis probably couldn't fly.

(But I still think it might have been capable of 'falling with style'.)

Autumn Leaf 2
Watercolour, approximately 75 × 127 mm.

A fiery bit of visual comfort now that winter is abruptly come.

I need this headache to go away, please. 😖😓

I was of course making a reference to Frederic Leighton's 'Flaming June,' 1895.

Glazing in watercolour is time-consuming. Though that's perhaps a redundant explanation, given that everything is time-consuming when I attempt it. 😮‍💨🙁😑

This piece was inspired by Ohara Koson's woodblock print, 'Rooster and Weasel,' c.1930.

The @changelingart.bsky.social auctions are returning, starting with 'Deck the Halls' later this month.

Would there be interest if I were to auction this sketch from a few years ago?
Inspired by a post on XTwitter by Anne Louise Avery, a flash fiction, one might call it (see below).

'You're adopted'

(For the non-palaeo folks, this is in light of a newly published paper re-establishing that #Nanotyrannus, previously understood to be a juvenile #T.rex, is indeed its own genus after all.)

'Henny Halloween, Too'

Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, approximately 95 × 64 mm.

Thanatotheristes is a late Cretaceous tyrannosaur whose name means 'Reaper of death.' I couldn't help this image of it in Grim Reaper guise popping into my head.

Brown pencil on plain notebook paper, 125 × 190 mm, 2020.

Blue peafowl.
Ink on Fabriano Medioevalis, approximately 85 × 133 mm.

Not so happy with this as I'd hoped to be. A combination of tiredness and my not managing the ink consistency well enough, resulting in quite a few areas of unsightly patchiness.
