When speaking with people about the difference between GPTs and conscious minds, I've found it helpful to explain that GPTs work out the 'most likely next word in this sentence' over and over, making them almost a very fancy version of the bit above your phone keyboard that suggests the next word.

The trick is to only back stuff that will always be helpful, no matter what.
