Man, that's really jarringly sad. I almost felt bad for the Boer until my revulsion returned.

Thought I'd add here, if you weren't aware, John Romero has rightly owned and apologized for that ad campaign. Wholesome stuff.

Committed, caring parents are as rare in horror as decent husbands, and this one stands above them all. It's the kind of film I wish I could recommend to everyone, but I can't, because Holy Shit Feelings.

I can only assume "that was awful intense" was the sole note they got from the producers.

Man oh man that movie punches far above its weight class. I'm not even entirely sure they knew how hard it would go.

Kairo isn't the best horror film ever made, and Pulse isn't the worst, but in my opinion they hold the dubiously honourable record of vastest gulf of quality between original and remake.
That remake is truly, objectively, wet dog shit from start to finish. Seeing Kairo only makes it _worse_.

I saw the remake in the theatre, and I went because I had seen the original.
I ... look forward to the trip report.

Oh wow dude. I'm looking forward to the trip report.

That's a top notch recommendation - I enjoyed the hell out of it. Right when I thought I couldn't enjoy this cozy/spooky dynamic any more than I already was, they broke out The Reveal and I was sent straight over the moon. Fully wonderful.

My friend and fellow Noroi enjoyer (e-noroi-er?), may I offer you some Taiwanese delight?

Remake and then original is definitely the correct viewing order. You get the additions of the cast and vibes, and you still got to enjoy the surprisingly effective PG-13 scares of the remake.

There are some truly great beats in the remake, I can't say otherwise, but the combination of cast, novelty, and the utterly horrifying physical performance of Inō as Sadako is peerless.
That's even really her damn hair in RINGU. No wig.

Come on man, you can't compare regular humans to Sanada. That's not even remotely fair.

Wow it's been over a minute and this post hasn't been swarmed by anti Indigenous racists. This place really is still different from Twitter.
