Wrote this story today and created a color-coded map to show which neighborhoods in Portland have the highest concentrations of ash trees. You can also hover over each neighborhood to see how many street trees and ash trees there are.
With the arrival of the emerald ash borer, Portland’s tree canopy will not look the same over the next decade. For many residents, the first signs of the emerald ash borer’s invasion will appear along the city's streets.

More than a quarter million trees live along Portland's streets as the city has made an effort over the years to add trees to its canopy. Of those, nearly 10,000 are ash trees susceptible to the recent invasion of the emerald ash borer.

RIP. Such a legend. It's hard to count how many movies I've seen where he completely inhabits the character he's portraying. Truly one of the greats.
Gene Hackman, the Oscar-winning actor who brought a flinty menace to films such as “Bonnie and Clyde,” “The French Connection” and “Unforgiven” was found dead Wednesday along with his wife in New Mexico, authorities said. He was 95.

The National Park Service fired many of its park rangers as part of a reduction in the federal work force. Some rangers decided it was worth the risk to speak out online about the cuts and share their love of the Park Service.
