Often metaphorical and allusive, the philosopher’s work will long be remembered for how it grappled with everyday thought

Two questions out there; what kind of music do you travel with? And do you know why? I always travel with Rachmaninov’s piano concerto no. 3. The state of mind it gives is hard to explain but I guess the closest I get is I travel and the mind floats along, in its own way.

Over 200k people waiting (on NHS waiting lists) for an autism, surely this is the point at which something has to change.

The current models have never been sustainable and are only becoming less so.
The waiting list for NHS autism assessments has surpassed 200,000 for the first time.

Today's data shows that as of Sept 2024, 204,876 people were waiting. That's more than the population of Reading.

Children face a median wait time of a year for *first contact*.

A very nice article about our study, with excellent quotes from Emily Towner and Livia Tomova, who led the study

Back in 2021, we hypothesized brain-heart interactions could signal mental processing, potentially detecting consciousness in unresponsive patients. And we succeeded: www.jneurosci.org/content/41/2...
Then Science and SfN gave us a shout-out for it: tinyurl.com/ytr67c5a www.jneurosci.org/spotlight
Newly detailed nerve links between brain and other organs shape thoughts, memories, and feelings
Studies of interoception challenge distinctions between disorders of the brain and body—and may hold clues to the basis of consciousness

Anterior insula is always over here misbehaving in non-sensory ways!

There are lots of great papers in that I like that relate anterior insula representations to social cognitive processes. Here are a couple in the thread below:
More broadly, insula stimulation evokes a mix of effects where the back bits involve sensory experience and the front bits tend to evoke emotions without sensory content (like anxiety without any reported visceral sensations).
