That time I made up a generative writing process, you're welcome.
Week 1: Gathering games 10 Propp classifications (requires his book) or ATU tale types (online) 30 random words from a page of Ovid 10 objects from the house or surrounding woods that seem plausibly magical. 5 memories involving feeling a slippage of time Talk with Genya about a piece of writing we both hate. Don’t take any notes on this. From random Jenny Erpenbeck pages, find 30 words I don’t respond to as “Kio words.” 6 fragments from remembered dreams, no peeking at notebooks 10 cruel characters from fiction off the top of my head. Week 2: Accordion Step 1--Write 3 or 4 brief stories using the Propp classifications and words images feelings from the gathering games. Step 2--Choose one, expand to add 3 rogue elements. (May need a bit of gathering for these if they don’t come right to mind). Week 3: Shuffle Take the story, or a piece of it, and write each sentence on an index card. Shuffle them around in as random orders as possible, see what happens to sense-making. Or could shuff

A periodic reminder that if you can't afford a book the library does buy books, and sometimes we even buy hundreds of copies of one book. Checking out books from your local library supports authors, which means they get paid and can write more great books!
