How will Trumponomics work out?
At this writing, a week after the US national elections, it appears that President-elect Donald Trump’s Republican party will gain control of both chambers of Congress, enabling him to enact his economic agenda. He has been clear about his intentions: tariffs to protect the United States, tax cuts to help business, and the expulsion of unauthorized immigrants.

Cultural Revolution seems very much the right term.
And if China's experience is any guide, America will not only have hundreds of thousands of experts' careers ripped to shreds, but also national misery and underperformance for a good couple of decades.
Had a long chat with Prof Cheng Li in Munich last month, who said what is happening in the US, particularly the DOGE kids ousting experienced civil servants, was deeply reminiscent of growing up in Shanghai during the Cultural Revolution
Yesterday I spoke to someone who grew up in the Soviet Union, who remarked on the US: ‘I recognize the signs of the path to authoritarianism. These are the signs.’
