'Most people'?!
You'd have to be 70-ish+ to have an adult view of 50 years ago, so that's pigeon-holed the sample, hasn't it?
A waste of ink & reading-time.

Chancellors are very good at hinting here & there & the media go bonkers interpreting to suit their politics. They have stated that just about every tax they can think of is going up, we're all damned & they're all doomed.
It's all bollocks.
I'll wait and see. Someone may have been right (faints).

Kill civilian mariners in international waters, face the consequences.
The US military is acting perfectly legally & constitutionally in refusing to implement illegal orders (and they know it).

No! Wessex Water execs (and other WC execs) should GO TO JAIL.
They pollute, they lie, they steal, they negotiate waivers, they collect FAT bonuses, they MILK the industry of funds they should be using to improve infrastructure and they're laughing all the way to the bank.
Every year.
Lock them up.

If I was in government, in charge of the railways, I'd have been ensuring that anyone bidding for and winning operating contracts spent significant amounts of money in electrifying the network.
It's not rocket science but we are led by donkeys.

One of the principal benefits of EU membership was to smooth the transfer of goods & services between members by reducing onerous bureaucracy. It took no brain cells at all - Farage easily meets this criterion - to work out that leaving the EU would reimpose all of that bureaucracy. Nul points Nige

Phew! Thanks, Alice. I'll definitely pack my cowbells in hold luggage from now on!
Hope the interrogation was quick! 😁

What will happen to the countless renters who don't meet the lenders' criteria for a mortgage when their landlord sells up & kicks them out - even if there's a glut of properties for sale?

£5.8m will dent BDO's profits for a while. It will be revovered in no time by increases in client fees and lip-service will be paid to the slap on the wrist.
Put these people in jail. Fines mean nothing to them. Denial of liberty and possession of a criminal record will focus minds.

Perhaps ex-councillor Richard Morgan has learned a lesson that running local authorities is a tough gig and that they're not a bunch of freeloaders mishandling public money but dedicated workers trying every day to get a quart out of a pint pot.
Tell your friends, Richard. They need to learn, too.

...but if he were to fall over at the gates of the US embassy in London and be carried in for first aid...

Anyway, back to reality.
