🪹 | Seabirds that survived recent bird flu outbreaks have continued to reproduce, although overall breeding performance remains notably low, according to a new study.

The study has looked at breeding success in Northern Gannets at two locations during 2023.

Productivity 🐣 of gannets that have survived #avianflu does not differ from those that have never been infected - BUT productivity since the 2022 HPAI outbreak is worryingly low.

#Bass. 1000's of Gannets retuned this wkend on live cam @seabird web. Wonderful to see them settling bowing, bill fencing and that gannet jabbing ! Poor photo (off cam) This was a dense beeding area.It will take time to recover(HPAI) Exciting to monitor, but look at that sea! No landing today😔

Releasing helium balloons is pretty much just fancy & expensive littering (except you can get fined for littering). They all end up somewhere, & are sometimes eaten by wildlife.

The Isle of May breeding season is officially underway.We have our first shag on eggs!A clutch of three was seen putting first egg date back a week.This is the joint third earliest on record and 28 days earlier than the long term average (& 39 days earlier than last year).They have had a good winter
