I mean, it's weird cos they've probably recycled a ton of the original CG they used for the animated original to do the water and stuff, but that soft focus blurred edge, shot-in-The-Volume LED lit feel to the whole is oddly disengaging. It's not real life enough!

The trailer for the 'real life' version of Moana has landed. It's 90% CGI. Reality & CGI butt up against each other - your brain automatically searches for the artificiality because the real things are in the shot. It's too smooth, it lacks the intrinsic Animation charm. Result is bland, sterile

It's fantastically well done, at first glance I thought it was a photo backdrop done to look like an explosive Anime movie poster, then realised it was actually models, then took in the smashed pane of glass etc. Just great!
