Two headlines, 24 hours apart

To my friends in the US: Orbán in Hungary forced the statistical bureau to doctor data on poverty. He set up a bunch of pollsters to create fake polls that always favor him. So, #Trump is just following down that path.

These headlines are misleading. #Trump is safe until Republican support is stable. He does not care about independents or Democrats, and he shouldn’t. The most interesting phenomenon is that Republicans still stand behind him firmly despite the tariff failure or the #Epstein scandal.

Russia is pushing migrants to the UK to overwhelm border defences and sow division in tactics that include providing fake documents, transport and even military escorts to smuggling gangs. I’ve spent months warning about moves like this from Moscow.

This is the most important thread about the challenge we face
The conditions that have led to what’s happening in the US today exist in democracies around the world.
They are an inevitable outcome of our collective failure to adapt to fundamental changes in the information ecosystem on which our democracies were originally built.

More such scholarly studies are needed on great replacement theory. GRT is widely propagated by political islam’s extremists, so it’s not secretive at all. Calling GRT a far-right conspiracy theory or islamophobia shared by white racists is unscientific.
🚨 What is the "Great Replacement Theory" & who believes it? 🚨

In our forthcoming IMR paper, @jamesrdennison.bsky.social and I treat GRT as layered narratives, from demographic change to the elite plot. A representative German survey shows broad public agreement with several of these layers.

This is pure corruption
The Washington Post is reporting that the Trump Administration is pushing countries to grant operating permits to Elon Musk as a precondition for a trade deal, according to a leak from the State Department. Some countries are pre-emptively complying to earn favor with the US.

These headlines are misleading. The main takeaway of this poll is “Nearly all Americans who voted for Kamala Harris (95%) and Donald Trump (92%) are satisfied with their decision to vote or how they voted.”
It means that support for Trump is still unjustifiably strong.

Its alarming that the effectiveness if Ukraine’s air defense is deteriorating.
At night, Russia launched a missile and drone attack.

Shot down:
0/2 Iskander-M ballistic missiles
0/2 Onyx anti-ship missiles
0/3 Kh-31P anti-radiation missiles
33/87 Shahed drones

Another 36 drones were lost in location without inflicting negative consequences.

The scientific community has a very serious problem: publications and conferences are ideologically biased. But this is not the way to enforce diversity and political independence.
The Trump regime is now using US Attorneys to intimidate academic journals by sending them letters demanding they explain how they ensure ‘viewpoint diversity.’ Journal editors should be public about this and coordinate to refuse to comply with these fascist tactics.

Trump successfully shifted the focus of political discourse from his failed tariff madness to linking crime and immigration and handling it with a strong fist.

American war planning usually takes place in highly secure facilities. But the Trump administration planned its strikes on the Houthis using a group chat—and accidentally included The Atlantic’s editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg. theatln.tc/IuULQFiY

This argument is coherent but fundamentally flawed. Empirical evidence proves that immigration is the key issue that let far right emerge amplified by algorhytmic disinfo on social media (powered Russia). Denmark and Japan provide counterexamples where extremists could not gain ground.
Many people rightly point to the core role that mainstream right parties play for defending liberal democracy against the far-right threat. However, solely focusing on the centre-right ignores the errors that leftwing parties have committed that have empowered the far right. A few thoughts …
