@rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social I have been made aware of 6 GP’s across Shropshire who have resigned their posts since 1.1.2025. All trained locally by my GP trainer colleagues and I. All of them have accepted jobs in Canada. We need news NOW of a more rosy future in GP in England. Please 🙂

Good morning to everyone who doesn’t dismiss women and their very real complaints.

The alternative dog walk was a delight however. If you’ve never ventured to #shrewsbury it’s a special place. We are very lucky to call it home.

Beautiful Shrewsbury is rather waterlogged this morning. The golden retriever is a dog of routine, our altered route is taking persuasion.

👇 racism kills in healthcare. E.g the MBRACE report 2019-2021: there was nearly 4 fold difference in maternal mortality rates amongst women from Black ethnic backgrounds & ~2 fold difference amongst women from Asian ethnic backgrounds compared to white women. These differences have persisted
Racism, systemic or otherwise, has consequences. Implicit bias, lack of knowledge, assumptions. Terrible.
A woman’s leg was just amputated in an academic tertiary care centre because of racism. I didn’t have time to intervene because she was referred to me on a Friday afternoon and by Sunday night it was already done. I know based on clinical evidence her wound would have healed. What to do?

Gisèle Pelicot is an absolute boss.

There is no end to the respect I have for her.

The strength and dignity she has shown in the face of what must be a devastating and torturous personal trauma, is awe inspiring.

"Assessing acutely unwell children isn’t something that can be done by algorithm or by following a protocol. And it’s yet another reason why acute and urgent care should remain an integral part of general practice."

This is a truly amazing achievement.
"[Scotland] has detected no cases of cervical cancer in women born between 1988-1996 who were fully vaccinated against HPV between the ages of 12 and 13."

That's honestly so amazing.
HPV vaccine study finds zero cases of cervical cancer among women vaccinated before age 14
In a large Scottish study, no cases of cervical cancer were found among women who received HPV vaccines before they turned 14.

I will NEVER stop advocating for vaccines.

For the vast majority history, childhood diseases meant 50%+ of our kids would die before aged 5.

Now, for the first time in the history of humanity, the loss of a child through disease at that age is a tragic rarity.

AND YET SOMEHOW PEOPLE ARE ANTIVAX!?

Another snippet in the @bmj.com, this time referring to work by the @ippr.bsky.social.

Obesity is strongly correlated with deprivation, though I think some people still struggle with that concept.

We already know this fact, but the challenge is how to improve the situation?
