I don't bake much, so I like making easy desserts like this chocolate bark. Semi-sweet chocolate topped with roasted hazelnuts, white chocolate, and salt crystals.

I'm making hazelnut chocolate bark and am tempted to add dried cranberries for some festive colour. Yay or Nay? (This may be a divisive issue 🙃)

I'm editing my historical fiction short story/novella & looking for inspiration. I read a sample of Olga Tokarczuk's The Empusium. Everything I tried to read after that felt like biting into an orange slice after eating triple-chocolate brownie.

An excellent book of short stories I read this fall.

Fesenjan, or Persian Pomegranate Chicken. From a recipe taught to me by a former student at Mosaic Settlement Services in Burnaby, B.C.

Something I typed up the other day. I opened my laptop before swallowing my first sip of coffee. In my not-yet-awake state, this is what I saw:

This one takes the cake, I think. If it's parody, it misses the point of parody. #wtf

OK. Threads is officially a trash heap. I'm inundated w/ these anti-feminist, transphobic, bigoted, ultra-conservative shouters. Why is Meta even showing me these? What, exactly is its algorithm up to?

Last night I finished watching the final season of Sex Education. My favourite characters were Eric and (of course!) Maeve, but I loved all of the truly diverse and inclusive cast. I'd love to see something in the same vein, but with middle-aged characters. Please, #Neflix!

Super Sandwiches, in the basement of the Cartier Building on Sherbrooke & Peel, closed due to increased rent. I guess another ho-hum chain resto will take its place & charge x2 for 1/2 the quality. And then they wonder why nobody hangs out downtown anymore. www.thetribune.ca/news/super-s....

Best description of misophonia ever. In Anne Enright’s The Wren, the Wren. Please understand me… I don’t mean to “overreact.” It is neurological.

I hadn’t finished my other book yet and I was just going to a peek at Anecdotes but now I can’t stop reading. @themockler.bsky.social’s short stories / flash fiction pieces are emotionally honest without melodrama. They accomplish this with strikingly direct sentences and subtle humour.

I assumed many authors' "first novels" were autobiographical bildungsromane, but now I'm having trouble thinking of more than a couple of titles: Jeanette Winterson's Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit; Jamaica Kincaid's Lucy ... What else? #Fiction #Autobiography #Reading

Lamb & tzatziki for turkey & gravy. Baklava for pumpkin pie. As we strive to decolonize, we offer thanks to the Kanien’kéha Nation, the Haundenosaunee Confederacy, and Anishinaabeg people who all have historical ties to Tiohtià:ke. Photos by @jendetracey.bsky.social 💕🩷 Peace & love to the world

I'm not sure I have anything of the right length to submit to the CBC Short Story prize this year. However, I always enjoy seeing the list of readers for the prize. Such an interesting group of writers! www.cbc.ca/books/litera...

I know that bisexual visibility day was last month, but let's keep the party going. Here's an article proving--with ample textual evidence from the novel and visual evidence from the movie--that Anne Shirley was bisexual. www.autostraddle.com/anne-of-gree...

Some thought-provoking metafiction in Haruki Murakami's short story, Confessions of Shinagawa Monkey. A great story too. Humour just below the dour surface.

Sometimes, the thesaurus is such a hard-ass, refusing to offer anything for that not-quite-right word. And sometimes a surfeit washes up on the page.
