John Archer was the first Black man to hold senior public office in London when he was elected Mayor of Battersea in 1913.

Black History Month is about rediscovering our history, the stories of Londoners like John Archer and paying tribute to those who came before us.

This is worth watching. Sharing more widely so others can enjoy.
This is my 1st time catching my pet archer fish, Legolas, spitting on camera. Archerfish use modified jaw and tongue bones to fire a jet of water to knock down bugs from over hanging vegetation. Here Legolas is shooting down a fruit fly 🪰 🐠🧪

People of Illinois, we need your help.

Get your cell phones out – record what you see. Put it on social media. Peacefully ask for badge numbers and identification. Speak up for your neighbors.

We need to let the world know this is happening – and that we won’t stand for it.

This is the playbook, folks.

If you're not paying attention now and doing something about it, then you're going to have to sit down the rest of your life because democracy is being taken away.

Do not be quiet in this moment.

Wishing Sam all the best for his recovery.
Just heard from the vet that Sam's operation went well, all shotgun pellet fragments have been removed and he (Sam) is awake and fine. We'll hopefully get him back tomorrow. Thank you so, so much to everyone who responded to this post, it's helped enormously.
Our lovely cat, adopted from a rescue a year ago, is being operated on this morning to remove an old airgun pellet from his skull. We had no idea it was there until it caused an infection last week. Very grateful for any fingers you could cross for him.

All gave some; some gave all.

Today London marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

I was humbled to join His Majesty the King, members of the Royal Family and veterans to pay tribute to all those who served in the Second World War. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten. #VEDay80

I am following this advice. I agree with what Jean says 100%.
There are a lot of bad things happening all at once, and it’s overwhelming to think about how to meet moments like this.

Jean says to focus on 1 or 2 things that you care about, understand fairly well, and are either local or involve a topic where you’re likely to have influence and find community

You also don’t need to assume your personal identity needs to be part of your work. For example maybe you’re scared shitless about your mom’s immigration status, but you’re a labor organizer.

It’s ok to focus on labor, and you don’t have to be the immigration poster child while you’re doing that

In fact, we need people not directly at risk to speak up loudly. If you are trans, it doesn’t have to be YOU putting your face out there for trans rights all day. It’s everyone else’s job to stand up and fight.

If you’re a US citizen, you need to fight for vulnerable immigrant friends and coworkers

This weekend's post was on a spending review that's getting tougher by the week + options for the government.

Can Reeves and Starmer use the Trumpian crisis to justify a different approach?

JD Vance is saying the quiet part out loud: the Trump administration intends to break the law.

America is a nation of laws. The courts make sure we follow the laws.

The VP doesn’t control the courts, and the President cannot ignore the Constitution.

No one is above the law.

Don’t just say DEI as if it’s a bad word. Spell it out.

Say diversity, which is the lifeblood of American society & culture & innovation.

Say equity, which a just society should pursue.

Say inclusion, because decent people believe in increasing belonging, not isolating people who are different.
