Improving my Gaeilge in Dublin
I've seen several similar ones in the last while... Why are they often employing bad stereotypes... and so obsessed with us 🤔
One night I pretended to be Irish when talking to a couple. My partner was coming to pick me up. I thought it would be a few minutes. She got lost and I had to keep it up for an hour. To be sure.

My 16 year old self would be delighted about the gigs I've been able to attend as an adult

Watching Reeling in the Years 1990 for *no* reason and 1 min in, before Mary R. even appears, it's already amazing television

I wore a hat today. It feels alien as if I've never done that before. Winter doesn't start for several more days no?

Omg I'm sorry I just saw a post about Bloody Sunday and a yank responded with essentially "this gives me hope that WE in the US will also see justice for what's happening HERE now!" read the room! They're not the same thing! Not everything relates back to that country! Ahh! I need to go to bed
This (North) Americans misunderstanding Irish posts thing always results in "as an *embarrassed* American I apologise for all my *ignorant* countrymen and I hope you don't think all of us, especially *me* act this way", yes thank you continue to centre yourselves in everything instead of just 🤐

I just saw the "F1" bus (whatever that is!), which allegedly goes to "Tallaght"... Just Tallaght, no specific part of it. Not like it's a big area or anything 👀

I was sent this so I don't have the photo credit but allegedly it was taken in Crumlin Village yesterday, the last day of the 83 ♥️💛 I used to follow loads of lovely Dublin bus accounts on twitter but they don't seem to have migrated here, such a shame

For the benefit oooof...?
Thousands of American tourists have come to Dublin this weekend to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Minnesota Vikings in Croke Park. The Government has approved an allocation of up to €9.95m (excluding VAT) to the NFL in order for the game to take place
Is it good economics to pay €10 million for an NFL match?

Great piece. 'lack of ambition' hits the nail on the head
I am sometimes criticised for being too negative and for failing to see the progress happening around Dublin. While that may certainly be true at times, I think the far greater issue in Dublin is that we tend to accept even the smallest progress as a major victory.

The flags are now inside the grounds of Christ Church, and they've painted some kind of mural on the ground on Capel Street 🫠
Typically the flags on the quays around now would be for Culture Night, which is happening this Friday (yay). What are they now? "NFL". Who is Dublin even for anymore?

no one hates Dublin more than the people who run it example number 17493728283729
One of Dublin's best-known street murals has been destroyed and replaced with NFL-themed graffiti ahead of an American football game in Croke Park this weekend

TG4 and RTÉ have had some really on the ball people picking music for their programmes and ads for as long as I can remember. Von Dutch on the Week in Politics segment on the election tonight is inspired lol

Went to Christ Church as part of Oíche Chultúir and we suddenly found this small door and went through it and next thing we knew we were up here. Anyway long story short if you heard the bells ringing randomly at c. 19:00, it was probably me crashing the last bell ringing lesson of the evening

A beautiful film called Girls & Boys is out today which I highly recommend. I have zero bias whatsoever 👀 but genuinely it's gorgeous and set in a dreamy Dublin and the leads are wonderful and the soundtrack is perfect

Girls & Boys review: Wildly impressive Irish debut features tremendous performances and a magical soundtrack
Donncha Gilmore allows the film to wander romantically yet never lets the pace slack

A few years back Varadkar said that nightclub opening hours and licencing arrangements needed to be reviewed "for tourism"... as if they couldn't possibly justify the existence of a fun thing in Ireland without tourists.

It's exhausting. People live here.
