and many universities have recently put in policies outlawing most classes with less than 15 or so students, which has destroyed many smaller seminar courses or medium size lecture course that would have had a few smaller discussion sections, because they aren’t profitable for the university

it’s not even that anymore, most of these places tenured faculty teach a fair bit, even surveys, many begrudgingly obviously

there just aren’t enough of them anymore because of the shift to contingent faculty, who now have to also replace the teaching labor of PhD students since those are being cut

even at the ivies and public ivies, these new expanding humanities classes are often mega lectures not seminars and, if they have discussion sections, they’re pushing 30 students

a pretty drastic change from where things were even a few years ago, despite enrollments being up

Also volcanic cooling isn’t really from the dust but from sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide gases which convert into sulfates in the upper atmosphere, so it’s a different mechanism than massive amounts of soot

Marx (and Engels) actually did consider this (and early on, in the Manifesto)

There, it’s proletarianized parts of the ruling class that bring “fresh elements of enlightenment and progress,” which aids political takeover but still need wide proletarian consciousness to sustain social revolution
