whenever I need to remove packages from my desktop, I use the following command
pacman -Rnsc
to clean up config files, dependencies, etc etc.
the trick i use to remember this command? it's one letter away from UNSC. I'm more or less asking Master Chief to escort the package off my system cleanly.
