It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

Drugs are not weapons of war. They are drugs.

The president’s word on who is or is not a drug dealer is not trustworthy. He and his administration have been caught lying about that multiple times.

Even if blowing up random boats were legal under the laws of armed combat, it’d be stupid strategy.

The fact we have secret police whisking people off the streets doesn’t get enough attention. It ain’t normal and we’re further down the road to authoritarianism than you think.

This is the right approach — speak to them as you would an especially stupid child, spell out their crimes and your contempt clearly.
I  know your goal is to try to make life as hard as possible for immigrants.

I think the way to turn this administration’s tanking polls around is to have this creep talk about his plans for our children as much as possible.
Stephen Miller: "Children will be taught to love America. Children will be taught to be patriots. Children will be taught civic values for schools that want federal taxpayer funding ... we're gonna make sure these funds are not being used to promote communist ideology."

A reminder that every small bit of good you do - whether it be putting art into the world, helping a friend or stranger, donating to a good cause, or just listening to someone who needs to vent - offsets all the evil in the world just a little bit. And sometimes that's just what the world needs.

Take a minute from your day and read this chilling story about how quickly we've gotten to where we are.
1. Clay Jackson, a Texas lawyer, provided basic legal advice to an immigrant family fearing deportation

Then, two officers visited him at his home, accusing him of "obstructing an ongoing immigration investigation"

Then, after speaking publicly, he was fired from his job at a Fortune 500 company

Friday, DOJ arrested a state judge in Wisconsin. Did she really commit a crime or is something else at work here? What are the law and the facts you need to understand to see the political machinations at work here? I try to take those issues on in this piece. joycevance.substack.com/p/arresting-...

Look, it’s an unpopular opinion in metro Atl but fireworks is not a year-round thing. 4th of July and maybe NYE. The cities hire some great pyrotechnic teams so we don’t need them at all.

Thinking out loud here but it would be nice if @davideickholt.bsky.social or @chadleistikow.bsky.social would put together an “Iowa Hawkeye sports” starter pack thingy here on Bluesky.

This weekend’s quest is to find a good pumpkin pie in Atlanta. Mrs Hawkphanatic43 and I aren’t pastry chefs so we defer to the pros. Southern Baked Pie was appropriate but not worth $40. Little Tart is on the schedule tomorrow.

If you know a good ITP (or OTP) option - I’ll be here for it.
