C-PTSD is Agony, Take it Seriously
@hauntedorphan.bsky.social
I am a tank made of glass.

Invisibly disabled AF.

Here to vent.

Ppl don't feel sorry enough for me bc they only see my strengths, because I'm pretty cool when I'm not complaining, so when I do, they gaslight it bc they can't handle that I'm nuanced. 😮‍💨
I wish people would let me hate my C-PTSD triggers.

Bullying, silencing, and invalidating me for having phobias rooted in extreme abuse/literal torture as a child only worsens the phobia and the unrequited rage.

The whole world outside of r/dogfree is an echo chamber of cynophilia.

Cynophiles are so Narcissistic that they go out of their way to invade r/dogfree and make gaslighting, ignorant comments, and/or screenshot posts from the site to post elsewhere and chastise, belittle, and invalidate r/dogfree.

The main thing that fucks me off about cynophiles/dog nutters, beside the absolute vulgarly sickening dishygiene of it all, is how they prioritise dogs above marginalised people towards whom they hold ignorantly bigoted views - I see cynophilia as directly linked to White Supremacy because of it.

Dogs fit the definition of "brood parasite."
January 2, 2025 at 12:41 PM
I really see cynophilia as a mental disorder that's like 98% comorbid with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, because that's been my experience of dog owners and dog obsessed people.

The enmeshment can be so extreme that I've seen people brag online that they "had sex with"/r*p*d a dog! 🤢🤮😱🤬🙅🏼‍♀️😭

I love this energy.

It honest feels like these filthy, loud, sharp-toothed and dangerous, annoying, putrid, retch-inducing, anal gland stinking mutants have taken over Earth and given all of their hosts some kind of brainworms to see them as cute instead,
and only a select few see through the ruse.
Wait. Sorry, what? Hang on. You... You're.... I found another cynophobic person?!?! I noticed you liked a reply I said about being cynophobic but OH MY GOSH I FOUND SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY CAN COMPREHEND THE IDEA OF DOGS NOT BEING GODS?!?!

It's okay, I'm used to it, even if it's frustrating. Just because my phobia isn't something typical, and revolves around something people love, they think it's not "real".

I have "managed" it as well as one reasonably could in a world dominated by dogs. It's just exhausting to keep explaining.

But they either don't accept that, or don't care.

I even had someone say I should've waited to be bitten by that dog before I did anything.

Fuck off. If you think someone is about to stab you, you don't wait till they do it before trying to defend yourself, do you?

Fucking exhausting.

I'm scared of the most popular pet in the world, "exposure therapy" won't work, because I'm exposed to them constantly.

People aren't walking their pet spiders and wasps around everywhere they go, "Karen".

I'm just exhausted explaining to people that dogs are fucking terrifying...

I've disclosed that I have kicked a dog that was running at me, snarling, off its lead.

"I'm scared of wasps, but I don't go around kicking them..."

No, you just suffocate them, or fry them with electricity instead, you hypocrite.

Also, besides allergic reactions, the dog is far more dangerous.

Lovely. Another day, another person minimising the impact of my cynophobia.

"If you just had a good experience with a dog, you'd be fine..."

That's not how fears work, you don't magically get cured of 25 years of fear with one event.

"My dog's well trained..."

Sincerely, it's not.

Always was nervous talking about cynophobia on other social mediums, because So You Hate Waffles has no fury like some people finding out that you just can't deal with their fuzzy friends

Like, it's not your fault I or any others have this phobia, and if you don't, honestly embrace that cuz that's awesome. Keep posting your crawly friends, they deserve to be appreciated as much as any cat video.

I don't expect it but I greatly appreciate when folks consider my phobias, it's not up to any individual to cater to thousands when it's easy to continue scrolling.

I have a severe case of arachnophobia but I do my part by muting words or hiding posts. I don't blame the individual.

Right there close up on your screen suddenly is more of a jump scare? They’re not as commonly seen in posts. And I think people that are afraid of dogs are just sort of forced to get used to seeing them everywhere. It’s not something that’s commonly TALKED about like arachnophobia either.

I had to Google that one. I don’t have arachnophobia but I do dislike spiders. They heebie my jeebies. The non-huntsman daddy long legs are welcome in my home though but it’s because the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and they mind their business.

I wonder if the tagging thing is because spiders

Right! There’s a lot to be said about the “acceptability” of animal hatred based on species.

I used to work with snakes at a nature center and I would have a snake in hand and be talking about how important they were and people would joyfully tell me how they decapitated one with a shovel the other day. Ghoulish behavior.

Ok yeah, people who think there shouldn’t be any consequences to hating snakes are just as annoying as spider haters. The absolute lack of regard for life, and the emotions of others is staggering. Fuck people like that.

For full transparent: this is not a thread to mock people with phobias, as they can be debilitating! This is meant to point out hypocrisy, using diagnoses to avoid accountability, and how some animals are seen as deserving of hatred as compared to others.

If someone commented “burn it with fire” on a picture of a puppy, people would be up in arms, but I’m just supposed to accept it because someone has a phobia of spiders? Phobia or not, quit being an asshole to animals that are more important for the environment than any domesticated animal could be.

I know this comes off as incredibly rude but I have had people be so nasty to me for expressing love for spiders and their kin and then saying they have a phobia as if that excuses sitting down and typing a violent comment. I’ve never experienced that with any other phobia.

Phobias are very real and impactful but I’m so tired of people using their phobias as an excuse to be outright hateful to already maligned animals. If I use the word “spider” in a post, it is up to you to figure out how to filter that out rather than demand others cater to you on their own profile.

I find it interesting that people only ask me to tag for arachnophobia but never cynophobia, which impacts almost as many people.
