30s. They/them. Iranian-American. I won a flash fiction contest once and now I think I'm a bigshot. On a break from writing, but still an unspeakable abomination. Opinions herein are my own; general content warning.
I can dream.

I'm reading Christophe Gans' interview with Rue Morgue magazine and he's discussing how the producers of Return to Silent Hill were "worried" about keeping Abstract Daddy in the movie. It's just another reminder of why I've come to loathe so many horror "fans."

Squinting at my copy of The Graceview Patient because I think I just caught a quick reference to Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke. Or the mention of antique apple peelers is purely a coincidence, who knows.

broke: the best-recognized Yellow Sign was made by a corporation and therefore doesn't capture the essense of the Yellow King

woke: the best-recognized Yellow Sign was made by a corporation and that's why it Perfectly captures the essense of the Yellow King

Ask your state and federal legislators to codify the freedom to read into law.

Let them know we will not accept blatant viewpoint discrimination in our publicly-funded libraries and schools under the guise of “government speech.”

Libraries belong to the people.

Feeling very grumpy about the void here so l've channeled that into a list of weird or weird-ish or weird-adjacent or theoretically-weird collections by Black authors (some of which I’ve read and too many of which I have not)

No, you may /not/ have "little a salami." I don't care if the internet said you could. No, not even "as a treat." No, not even if you're cute.

I'm reading Cass Khaw's THE LIBRARY AT HELLEBORE for my "published in July" #hrcyed read. It's strange to want to call something so Wet™ so refreshing, but maybe it's just the satisfaction of reading a novel that feels as rage-filled as you are inside.

Bear with me for this thread, because it's mostly me venting my own cynicism rather than a reflection of real life:

I feel like the scariest thing about all those "required" dystopian novels we were supposed to be given in high school is that some of them don't faze me anymore.

In honour of the official start of spooky season, please allow me to boost my horror essay collection, BE SCARED OF EVERYTHING. It's got Ouija boards, it's got chainsaws, it's got demons and cannibals and oceans of blood.
It's available wherever you get books.

A book that shows us everything is terrifying—from Pokémon to PTSD—and that horror can be just as honest, vulnerable, and funny as it is scary.

I don't know why the idea of writing has made me feel physically nauseous lately. I mean, to be fair, everything has made me kind of nauseous lately. Maybe that's just the natural progression of my life. Sartre was right again

A GAME IN YELLOW is out today! 💛

Join Carmen, Blanca, and Smoke as the hunt to spice things up in the bedroom takes a maddening turn when the cursed play The King in Yellow becomes a misused toy in my queer erotic cosmic horror, new from @sagapressbooks.bsky.social 🎉

I hate accidentally eavesdropping on conversations people are having in public, because sometimes you overhear an opinion that is ultimately low-impact in the scheme of things but pisses you off SO BADLY.

Movie watching nonwithstanding, I really would like it if I could work on channeling my own pain into some good work. Developing the discipline (?) for that remains the hardest thing I've ever tried (and failed) to do.

I finally watched I SAW THE TV GLOW last night, because, I guess, why not make myself even sadder

I mean...maybe I can give /them/ a happy ending. Just, maybe it's not a happy ending for the other characters. Or the audience. Or the universe.

Also what's this about profitability? My identity doesn't exist so that it can be "marketable."
