Yeah, I was wrong footed by the bootloader, I thought I could use elilo but it wasn’t compatible with my nvme drive.

So I reinstalled with grub, but forgot to create a separate /boot partition. Trying three times to install Slackware felt very nostalgic!

NixOS has been great for building nice stable, uniform, reusable configurations but it feels like flying on autopilot once it’s set up. I love tinkering with config files so I installed Slackware again on a spare laptop to give myself a challenge 🤷‍♂️

I know what you mean. On most distros I don’t even notice a kernel upgrade, on Slackware it feels like doing brain surgery.

It’s pretty stunning how little #Slackware has changed in the last quarter of a century (apart from the bit where I got latest Firefox running in a few minutes)

I sometimes can’t believe I got up it in my first car to be honest. It was usually firing on fewer than four cylinders and was definitely more suited to flat terrain!

I definitely wouldn’t get up Winnats, but I’m tempted to have a go at Mam Nick on the other side of the ridge this year.

Oh that does look good… just when I thought I’d settled…

Don’t get me wrong - Vim is powerful, and if you’re using it daily, it’s fantastic. But for occasional coders, VS Code strikes a nice balance between functionality and ease of use. Plus, let’s be honest, it’s probably only as bloated as my old NeoVim setup was getting! 4/4

I like how VS Code handles Git integration. Whether I’m working with GitHub or GitLab, everything just works within the editor window. Being able to stage changes, commit, and push without context-switching is brilliant. Chuck in the integrated terminal, and I’ve got a really nice workflow going 3/4

Setting up VS Code on both my Mac and Linux machines was surprisingly painless. The real game-changer was the settings sync feature. Gone are the days of manually recreating my development environment, managing dotfiles with Git and Stow, etc. 2/4
