The sad reality is, the overwhelming majority of Americans don't know there's a voter for the Speaker going on, don't care & won't be able to name him after the vote. This is what happens in a country where civics education is no longer universal. Its absence lets darkness settle in over democracy.

I have found that shouting into the void of social media is a great way to channel my fury. Other alternatives include League of Legends and World of Warcraft.
As all this happens, take care of yourself. And also—alongside the fear and numbness that may be creeping in— find a space for fury at what they’re going to do to this country that we love, and give yourself room for hope.
