I want to add that doing this work made me acutely and immensely grateful for the people who do farm and packing and processing labor to get produce from the fields to our stores and farmers markets. It is difficult skilled labor and everyone who does it deserves respect and generous compensation.

I already bought five advent calendars this year (one for each household member, geared toward their tastes, plus a family one for sharing/trading options) but I’d get this sweet little stationery one. It’s just so cute.

As long as your ground isn’t frozen, you’re good to plant! We typically plant garlic around Halloween here.

Also Kim Davis doesn’t get a win, and that’s good because she does not deserve nice things.

I’ve heard they don’t do well if crowded by other plants/roots. And that seems to have held true for me. I had wonderful garlic when it was on its own in a bed. Last year I mixed it in with perennials and it just didn’t flourish. Could have been other factors but I’m going back to what worked.

That makes me feel better. I got maybe 40 tiny heads. I use a full head any time I need any garlic flavor. It’s sad.
