Tech-enabled violence? I'm not sure what that is.

The only way you can commit violence with a keyboard is if you hit somebody with it.

In which case, I recommended an old IBM Model M. They say you can beat a man to death with one, and then keep using it.

And so, the wheel turns again. Gun owners get dragged out behind the woodshed again.

Until next time. What will the next "reasonable compromise" bring?

Meanwhile, Australia has, on average, 3.5 traffic fatalities every day, 365 days a year. A Bondi Beach massacre, every five days. But when a gun is involved... well that's a risk that just cannot be tolerated.

You can't say you accept the risk, but then lose your shit when the bad thing actually happens... 30 years later. That's not accepting risk, that's living in denial of it.
December 19, 2025 at 11:12 PM
It's always the same raw deal. Gun owners lose freedom, and the public accepts the risk that remain. But the public never holds up their end of the bargain. They don't actually accept the risk at all.

I think you linked the wrong Tony Keller. Either that, or he's a man of many unrelated talents.

I expect we'll have a good idea how outdated it is in 2028. Trump doesn't seem to have much respect for anything else in the Constitution.

You can't say you accept the risk if you're just going lose your shit and demand more bans when that risk actually comes to pass.
December 16, 2025 at 12:08 AM
You get way more mileage by controlling who can have guns, rather than by controlling what kinds of guns they can have.

I think Bondi Beach has demonstrated that fact very well. They used bolt-action hunting rifles... the exact kind that was supposedly an acceptable risk for civilians to own.

Not the first. Australia has had numerous mass shootings since Port Arthur (depending on how you define "mass shooting".)

And yes, Canada regularly goes years without a mass shooting (again, depending on how you define "mass shooting".)

You're thinking of the US.

A standard-shaped human can only use one at a time. What does it matter if he has five more at home?

Not just the couch gag... the whole opening.

I haven't watched an episode of The Simpsons in 20 years, but I would totally tune in for the Simpson's opening reimagined by the guy who made Baaa.

Matt Gurney has accomplished something that 10 years ago, I would have thought impossible: he's made me interested in politics.

But I'm aware of the dangers of getting all of my perspectives from a single source.

So, I'm curious... why is agreeing with Matt Gurney something that troubles you?

Whatever it takes to keep their advertisers in front of our eyeballs. You can't make your quarterly numbers without breaking a few eggs.

It's like Robotron crossed with Geometry Dash.

I hate it. Do not at all like the visual-overload type stuff.

Mayhem was gotten into.

Well, some of us appreciate your work.

That is kind of the whole point of diceware passwords. Correct horse battery staple... easy to remember, hard to guess.

If your entire understanding of elephants is that they're horrible things that occasionally dump gallons of shit on innocent children, then you'll never be able to find common ground with people who admire their cleverness, like to ride them, and use them to do hard work.

He's a puppet mouthpiece. A ventriloquist dummy. Nathalie Provost is the puppeteer. That's why she was standing right behind whenever he talked.

Conversely, one also wonders how long the left will maintain its reputation as unfriendly toward Second Amendment gun rights.

When Trump's brownshirts are kicking down your door at 4am, you might pause a moment to reflect on who has all the guns, and who thought the 2A was a quaint anachronism.
