Australia launches the biggest gun ban since their last big gun ban.

If these changes are so necessary, why weren't they part of the last "reasonable compromise?"

Got since pumpkins. Got "Lucille".

What kind of mayhem are we getting into today?

Nice essay by sociologist David Yamane.

Many non-gun-owners only ever think about the negative aspects of #guns.

He has likened it to the parable of the three blind men and the elephant. Many people's impressions of the gun elephant are informed entirely by a detailed examination of its anus.
To fully appreciate why people own guns, we need to understand the individual & communal pleasures associated with shooting. These are the pleasures that led me to fall for guns. New essay in @contexts.org by @sagepub.com and @asanews.bsky.social.

This talk pulls together all of the threads of my work. If you wonder how it all fits together or how I see the way forward on guns, this video is for you. Or if you know someone looking for a liberal, pro-civility gun owner, this is a great start.

I haven't watched a lot of #RobertRedford 's movies. But I have to say, "All Is Lost" (2013) made an impression on me.

Just one guy, alone, on a sinking sailboat in the middle of the ocean. Barely a word of dialog in the entire film. But it was gripping.

Have to watch it again now.

Sometimes bullets have uses you might not expect. Like applying even clamping force in a shoe while gluing the sole back on.

Guns in America: A liberal gun-owning sociologist offers 5 observations to understand America’s culture of firearms
A scholar who became a gun owner later in life found there is more to firearms than criminal violence, injury and death, and more to gun culture than democracy-destroying right-wing politics.

This is the greatest overview I have seen of design techniques for #3Dprinting functional objects. Some of it I knew already, and employ regularly. But I also learned bunch of new things.

Highly recommended.

Just saw a Tesla with a "This Tesla is not an endorsement of Elon Musk" bumper sticker.

I feel sorry for them. It wasn't so long ago that far-right jacasses with their modded diesel trucks would "roll coal" on them because they hated the very idea of electric cars.

After draining the rink this year, we had this bit of leftover ice. It's weird. Very fragile, and breaks up into long hexagonal crystals.

This popped up randomly on my YouTube feed. You don't see a massive modular synth setup like that, and just not click on it, like a caveman. You just don't.

Epic.

A new 4K restoration of Pink Floyd at Pompeii, based on recently-rediscovered film negatives? A new surround-sound mix by Steven Wilson? Coming soon to a movie theatre near me?

Well, count me in.

Here's something I never thought I'd see: Chimay Trappist ale in a Sobeys grocery store.

But I have to say, having now consumed it, Chimay Gold is not very, umm, Trappist. Much more of a mass-market style of beer. Kind of disappointing.

Now that my 3D-printed case and bullet feeders are working nicely on my #Hornady #reloading press, here's a video showing my complete reloading process for 9mm Luger cartridges, from start to finish. And a little bit of range fun at the end.

So, here I am, starting a new life on Bluesky. Looking for a place more pleasant than the increasingly toxic cesspool that is "X".

So, here's what I've been up to lately: a 3D-printed automatic case feeder for my Hornady Lock'n'Load reloading press.
