One of the weird things about A City on Mars, is I have been repeatedly, by accident I believe, been put in the position of having to defend Elon Musk/SpaceX. I don't see why adult human beings can't understand that it's possible to be a dickwad and achieve important things. Seems fairly common.

So the Turing Test/Imitation Game is pretty clearly off the table as a method to suss out consciousness. What do you think should replace it?

I think Turing was onto something with the idea of looking for equivalence, rather than defining consciousness. Just turns out the test conditions aren't it.

Reading a philosophy book section on informal fallacies, and the writer says insults are not per se ad hominem attacks, because "ad hominem" is when the insult is used to attack validity.

So,
"you have tiny balls" = OK
"your views on set theory are wrong because you have tiny balls" = ad hominem
