I don't remember reading this one. An "adventure of a girls' school wrecked on an island and the story of how they carried on under difficult circumstances". Characters called Miss Scraper, Eunice and new girl Tiny Cottrell. Definitely reading it on a holiday day & maybe it will come back to me

When something or someone is visible and successful it is easy to forget or to ignore the creativity, risk and graft that was needed to make it happen in the first place. @thehistoryguy.bsky.social was an early and ever energetic advocate for public engagement with history. Hats off to you Dan.

I have read that she was married to Philip's older brother, Thomas Rundell. Thomas was not part of the business but their son, Edmond, later joined and the company became Rundell, Bridge & Rundell. But I haven't fact checked that part of the family tree myself yet.

It is a book about big 18th century diamonds, some of which passed through Rundell & Bridge. Trying to remain objective but I seem to have developed a swift dislike for Rundell with his tyrannical ways and reputedly slovenly dress. One of the richest men of his generation.

Fortunately his business partner, John Bridge, had better people skills and managed the direct customer sales, including paying visits to the fashionable women who Rundell was said to particularly loathe. 3/3

Rundell was described by an employee as "of violent disposition, very sly, cunning and capricious in the extreme. Avarice, covetousness and meanness were so deeply rooted in him that it affected every feature of his face and entered into every action of his life" /2

Did your kids ever watch Ben & Holly? "Old King Thistle is a very old king and he is one year older today". Happy birthday by the way.
