FRIDAY

A miserable start (unless you have #snow 😍) with a mix of rain, sleet & snow, most on high ground >250M, but we can't rule out some flakes to lower-levels. Drier to the W.

A biting wind. Drier towards evening.

Frost/ice overnight.

Finally, the blocked weather pattern (high pressure to our east) that's been bringing days on end of rain to parts of the UK, will move away later this week.

Beautiful Green Hellebore, Helleborus viridis, in woodland on the edge of Croydon. 💚 It is a member of the Ranunculaceae, the Buttercup family. What look like green petals are in fact sepals, and the petals themselves are reduced to small tubular nectaries (visible in third photo). #WildflowerHour

SUNDAY

A slightly better day. Mild and I could well make double-digits for only the second time this year.

Mostly cloudy, odd bright spell and equally the odd shower.

SATURDAY

Less cold but still mostly cloudy. Showery rain at times, some drier and brighter slots before more persistent rain and downpours arrive later towards evening. Breezy later.

After sharing a bark collage a few weeks ago and seeing how much you enjoyed it, I thought I’d share some more. Close details from Anglesey Abbey last weekend, where bark, lichen and fungi create endlessly varied patterns.

I am singing in a concert on Saturday in a Dulwich Church surrounded by woodland, and as such, we have been invited to wear a splash of green with our concert black. I have therefore crocheted an Oak leaf brooch. Am very pleased with self.

⚠️ Not surprised this has been issued with some rain, heavier than first thought, coming through the region tonight and meeting the cold air. #Snow is possible, as mostly the case these days, on higher ground. It's certainly cold enough now for some snow flurries here. #uksnow

This Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum was keeping a close eye on me at the Glasgow Botanic Gardens yesterday, just in case I was tempted to move any plant labels. 👀

REST OF SUNDAY

Cloud will thicken but the rain doesn't look as bad now. So we can expect some patchy rain and a lot of low-cloud with some mizzle around. Lighter winds than recently.

February takes its name from februa, a Roman festival of purification held in readiness for spring and new beginnings. The month’s birthstone is amethyst, so here is a small gathering of amethyst-hued February flowers, welcome heralds of the turning year & the lengthening light.
