I'm not talking about the outcome, but I wish the US had more parties that participated in government.

I was asked by a Republican friend if I was willing to say I am wrong if, after 2 years, things are better. That is such a crazy question because the offenses are so extreme right now, that "better" will never make up for this.

It is very difficult to survive these times, from an emotional standpoint. I do not understand the people I know who voted for this. Do they feel so desperate when a Dem is in office? I never witnessed their agony on the scale that the rest of us feel. It is an awful time.

The joy of 1 million + Eagles fans celebrating in the Philadelphia radiated through my core. Also, my older daughter was part of the crowd and this makes me happy. Source of this photo unknown.

Our research university leaders are totally failing us in the authoritarian moment. Not even trying to loudly & publicly defend the project of academia or the institutions. Just choosing a combination of “keep our heads down” & anticipatory compliance. Shamefully inadequate to the moment.

Keeping up with my Last Days of Rome series. Also, it is snowing outside and I didn't bother to check the weather.

I remember David Brooks as a Conservative...
David Brooks concludes his column of Feb. 23, 2025, with this: @I’m not a fan of populism, but real populism would be better than the right-wing elite nihilists who are running the country now.” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/13/o...
Opinion | Trump Is No Populist
Trumpism is not a working-class revolt against the elites. All I see is one section of the educated elite going after another section of the educated elite.

People really do believe this. It is hard to persuade them otherwise.
This administration has convinced half the country that the real problem isn’t billionaires who evade taxes and collect government handouts but the working class who pay taxes and get nothing in return.

We as a country will save nothing. Federal employee salaries make up just 4% of the budget—roughly $271 billion. So even if every federal worker were fired, that’s the maximum you’d save. Meanwhile, the U.S. House GOP has released a budget that raises the debt limit by $4 trillion.

Now if only we can rise up and protest the way Philadelphia celebrates an Eagles win.

I tuned in to see Kendrick Lamar. I think he is a brilliant artist. From his Gil Scott-Heron opening quote to the guy on the light post, he is not disappointing.

Meet the Press reported that the President has a 53% approval rating right now. This is so confusing. Where are these people?

With the stunting of US-based science, it seems the maga slogan promotes being less than great.

A friend got her green card 2 days ago. Of course it surprised me! Obviously, it's been in the works for awhile, but I am really happy it went through, especially given the chaos being engineered by the president.
