Took a tour of emotional experiences today, hit a lot of the major ones, and marinated in the strangest mixture of feelings on my flight back.

A truly unique day. I won’t forget it.

And yeah, I’m gonna cop out and vague post about it because my latest emotional experience for the day is I’m tired.

Staging myself into the Central Valley tonight to go into the mountains tomorrow. Late October in the Sierras by myself is like the ideal first backpacking trip, right?

So. The government is shut down and one of the few things that affects in the defense budget is things like air shows. This happens to be SF’s typical week for fleet week.

The city said “okay fine then I guess.” And the annual airshow is happening as scheduled. Just without the US military.

On today’s announcements: Okay so gender roles and stereotypes are wildly unfashionable but still… if you can’t give me a femme color at least give me a black option you heartless monsters.

You ever spend an entire day with a low grade headache before remembering medicines exist and you can just take them?

Sigh.

Perhaps one of the more difficult parts of dating multiple people is getting a coffee machine which will bring joy to each partner. Since I do not drink coffee myself, there is no specific person this machine is for other than the nebulous possibilities of the entire range of coffee drinks.

Interesting that some customer service interfaces show the difference between LLMs generating responses one word at a time and humans responding one message at a time. It’s useful to know when the handoff happens but also an example of the underlying technology peeking through.

Ah yes, it’s that time where you pop onto the Internet and read from all the folks you walked right down Market St with earlier that day but never managed to run into. 😂

So, uh… same time next year?

This June is the first on record that California’s grid is calmly powering itself most days on batteries more than any other single source in the 8pm and 9pm hours. (20:00-22:00)

Last year was the first time that happened in June on any day.

Apropos of nothing in particular today I looked it up and I’ve only flown on Air India 787-8s with tail numbers VT-ANH and VT-ANI, so nothing unusual to report.

Very very little case law exists around the third amendment but what little there is points to:
* National Guard are considered solders for the purposes of the third amendment (677 F.2d 957)
* The third amendment is not intended to apply solely to privately owned homes.

Yes. People who have real experience teaching self defense for trans people highlight how you never, ever, ever want to look like you’re fighting back if you’re trying to defend yourself.

It’s safe to move to not be in the path of someone trying to hit you, but it looks too aggressive to block it.
I think a lot about self-defense guides for trans women which note we cannot cry out for help like other women because we are likely to be accused of being the instigator in a situation where we are in fact the victim
Bitch you're the only person talking about this shit! This is letting the other side dictate the debate!

We've been beaten over the head with Alexander Hamilton quotes for a decade and yet party leadership still hasn't internalized the easiest thing: "Those who stand for nothing fall for anything."

The long stare that can only really properly come out when the last time you slept was a continent ago and it’s getting about time to fix that. #timeisasocialconstructevenmorethanusualtoday

Next steps:
* Shower
* Laundry in the machine
* Sleep
* Wake up and go to the office

It’s 3:30am. I walk out of my hotel, pet a cat, stroll less than one block to a 7-11, buy a milk tea and a plug adapter (I always bring one except not this time, so now I have another) and on my way I pass three 24 hour hawker centers each with at least one stall serving noodles. I love a real city.
