Only downside is the song "Nesting Doll" has a lyric about the flood story in the Epic of Gilgamesh, except the flood story is actually Utnapishtim's story, who is the only antediluvian survivor, not Gilgamesh's, who hadn't even been born yet when it happened. So -700 points.

RIP Tatsuya Nakadai, the greatest Japanese actor of all time. I always get excited when I see his name in opening credits. He was incredible in Harakiri and The Human Condition trilogy, but my favorite performance of his still has to be The Beast Shall Die (1959). Wild eyes.

Also vibin today with Boris’ Dronevil. Glad this finally got a normal vinyl version, it’s often overlooked in favor of Flood and Feedbacker, but deserves to stand right up there with the best. Monolithic, melancholic, atmospheric slow burn post-rock with devastating power.

Celebrating the good Death Grips news with one of the best mixtapes of all time, Exmilitary.

It took me until 2013 before I hopped on board through Takyon, but I remember seeing the cover everywhere when it first dropped. Those initial 7 years were an absolutely wild Ride.

Looks like Death Grips are finally working on new material! Thought it'd never happen at this point.

For reference, it has been 2693 days since their last album, and the entire span of their original run (first EP to last album) was 2663 days.

One of my favorite things about black metal is that when the song's about to kick in, you never know if you're gonna get hit with hyperspeed blastbeats that sound like they were recorded in or with a tin can, or the most beautiful lament you've ever heard in your life.

I'm really, really happy to see how Chat Pile have been evolving. Their extremely unexpected collaboration with Hayden Pedigo of all people is the best record I've heard from either artist, and the (+-) experiments were really fresh as well.

One thing I've noticed is that it seems like the best visual designers around seem to work specifically on band tour/concert posters. I wonder if it's a case of something like there being less oversight and more artistic freedom? Or just a matter of art quantity?

Managed to find enough time between everything to make another 10 Piranesi. pieces. This batch is quite an extreme one, featuring the darkest, silliest, most intense and even sentimental pieces in the entire catalogue so far.

Also just an unexpectedly really pretty game.

Really enjoyed Caput Mortum. Short, punchy Amnesia/Penumbra style horror puzzler. Neat alchemy-based plot and novel mechanics that don't overstay their welcome. The "pre-standardization" style control scheme took a bit of getting used to, meaning it works as intended.

I haven't yet listened to Geese, but considering they just dropped one of the greatest album covers of all time, I feel I ought to.

Watched Tragedy of Man (2011), absolute monolith of an animated film. Adam, Eve and Lucifer wax philosophical about the nature of man with each time period animated in an appropriate style, produced over the course of 23 years. Exhausting, sometimes sublime, always impressive.

Played through Returnal on a whim and had a very good time. I don't really like rogueli(k/t)es, but this kept me engaged thanks to a very intriguing story and good combat (also since I played KB&M, I only died twice at the very start, so the permadeath didn't really affect me)

After a short "Tennis, Everyone?" break, Piranesi. has returned and is now halfway up to a hundred.

"Tennis, Everyone?" is now going up on streaming services. Since music can't be unmonetized on these platforms, I've had to replace the movie samples with ones from public domain films. I consider these versions inferior, but it's either that or nothing on streaming.

Been thinking about Thantifaxath's Solar Witch lately... Who even uses tempo like this? It's so cool.
