NHTSA closed their year+ investigation of Waymo. Waymo's 2 recalls re to this investigation were for crashing into a utility pole and roadway barriers. Evidently, robots repeatedly driving on the wrong side of the road into traffic and disobeying traffic control devices is ok in USA. Scale that.

Waymo's system is surely safer than Tesla's, though it hit and ran a cyclist in San Francisco and is being sued by another cyclist for an injury crash involving two Waymo robots.

Interesting lawsuit against Waymo

Two safety issues seem at play:
1. Waymo pulling over into and parking in a bike lane
2. Waymo warning but not intervening to stop a door being opened into the path of a bicyclist

1 is clearly the AV, 2 might be the user

Good question. Sounds like the bicyclist asks Waymo for the name(s) of the passengers and Waymo declined:

Waymo "intentionally declined to take steps to identify or disclose the identities of the passengers involved," according to the lawsuit

In San Francisco, an interesting lawsuit about Waymo's culpability in bike crashes:

The plaintiff claims she was biking in an SF bike lane when she was doored by a Waymo parked illegally -- and then she hit another Waymo parked illegally.

Curious to see whether/how Waymo gets out of this one.

Getting doored by a Waymo into another Waymo. These things run through roundabouts in our neighborhood. And the cops use them to spy on people.

If you wonder why your appliances need an internet connection it's because they're spying on you and selling your data. Waymo and DoorDash robots too.
