In the HPC mines at Nvidia. Storage, Bruins, Views my own, blah blah. Not a real doctor but I am a real worm, I am an actual worm.
After 20 years in the UC system and 16 at Berkeley Lab, I’m taking off to try out the private sector. Incredibly surreal day. I’ll miss this view and the community here a whole lot but something interesting came along and I decided I can’t pass it up.

Was playing through some Atomfall DLC a week or two ago and found my cat's namesake! (she's Abby Normal)

As is traditions, some rando got a temp picture in place

Years ago, I stole my wife's nose (like one does a toddler's) and hid it. It's one of the more gravely serious things in our relationship. We had some particularly spicy thai tonight and she said "my nose is running!" to which I asked "what nose?"

Reader, there was genuine anger in the "fuck you"

On the final image of a 8-step firmware update chain across 2 director switches. So ready for this to be done

Upgrading to proxmox9 and run rke2 on your hypervisors? NFS CSI not working? Intel gpu driver all sorts of pissed?

set "disable_apparmor=true" under [plugins.'io.containerd.grpc.v1.cri'] in /var/lib/rancher/rke2/agent/etc/containerd/config.toml.tmpl

Obv a temp workaround. That was so fun...

My wife's never seen The Naked Gun. This is an amazing viewing. She has no idea Enrico Palazzo is in this!

gitlab runner on an emulated aarch64 vm running on x86_64 proxmox building node images for machines that don't yet exist. bonus points for going in to the lab to steal an actual aarch64 node from an disused ceph cluster to speed up the builds (and hopefully test aarch64+warewulf)

life is weird...

Has anyone heard any clarity on the NERSC10 storage?
I'm assuming Vast with the recent Dell moves but Lightning is kinda on offer in that timescale and there's always other x-on-dell-hardware offerings

I think I accidentally just gave @wkamaubell.bsky.social the stink-eye. If so, the hick-lookin dude with the handlebar mustache was just tryin to tell his brain to be cool!

We mustn't dwell. No, not today. We can't! Not on Rex Manning Day!

Hulu’s max device download limit is simply far far too low. Barely 2 short seasons of a show? I have a 1.5, 12, 1.5 hr flight string, man.

(Trying to distract myself from the country crumbling around me) How has Snakemake become such an annoyance to me so quickly? Reproducibility is laudable but how is it so easily misconfigured that I need to chase users with 250Mil inodes and they don't even know it's there?!

See, these are the Bruins I grew up with. Kicking me in the head when everything else already sucks. Guess I get to see what it's like viewing Brad Marchand from the other side now!

Every once in a while I get to do something really weird in a ludicrously important place. Today it was getting a 2-hop (o2ib->tcp, tcp->o2ib) lnet router going between 2 IB fabrics at 2 datacenters 50 miles away across a 2x100Gb link. So now we have a single slurm/lustre/warewulf cluster in 2 DCs

I don't know who else needs this but after a rude message from my browser today, I found a Manifest v3-compliant version of Proxy SwitchyOmega. I would be in a world of hurt without this extension:
chromewebstore.google.com/detail/proxy...
Proxy SwitchyOmega 3 (ZeroOmega) - Chrome Web Store
Manage and switch between multiple proxies quickly & easily.
