Grumpy, middle aged Aussie software developer who also "lifts heavy shit and puts it back down again".
Why haven't we always been asking for this on diffs from developers who write their own code?

If AI is so smart it's taking developer jobs and we need this from it, then surely we've needed it even more from the people whose jobs are being taken?

Go enjoy your time off, Ed. You've well and truly earned it this year.
Thanks for all your incredible work - so many of us really appreciate you for it.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

I'd rather companies go bankrupt than give more power to a corporation that is close to becoming an outright monopoly in no less than 10 different industries. Tech bros genuinely won't be happy until we're all working 20 hour shifts in the Amazon warehouse for minimum wage.

To quote @punkey.org - this is all just nerds masturbating.

Watching that put a smile on my dial. Really well done, Chris. 👏

I really don't want to have to switch to Linux, but it's never had a more successful ad campaign than current Windows.

To which I say “It’s Bond mate. Nobody cares about the lore.

Bond's first outing in Dr. No was released in 1962, where he was meant to be in his mid 30s.

He has appeared as seven entirely different people since then and should now be in his 90s. Get on with it.”

Agreed - reboot it. The movies should be effectively standalone anyway.

And as a lifelong lover of Bond movies, I'd be happy to wipe the whole Daniel Craig run from the timeline.

Even better, reboot back to an 80s or 90s setting.

They way it looks to me, at the moment everything (and everyone) in Big Tech related to AI seems goofy and awkward.

At this point in the processing I call that "classic Ed", and I love it! 👌

And because the AI is non-deterministic it changes the shape of the bricks as it's falling.

Meanwhile, I read Bezos now owns less than 10% shares of Amazon.

He's largely escaped that ship.

From the same dev: “it’s also that I cannot see management being concerned solving the information visibility that keeps slowing us down.

We’re rolling out AI coding tools for devs but no one thinks about the org silos that slow us down 10x more than any coding use case.”

Gotta love a company that blames users for "abusing" a system when they're the ones who design the system to be wide open. 😏

And if anyone's going to maximise use, it's going to be a developer!

The caption for a photo like this should be a simple "Living".
That looks like heaven.
