UTFA is the 19th (!!!) Faculty Association in @caut.bsky.social to say: We don't want our retirement savings being used to fund a genocide. The momentum is massive - BDS and F4P are mainstream positions now. More will follow + much work is to be done still. Congrats to the organizers.
Divestment victory! Yesterday, the University of Toronto Faculty Association (UTFA) voted to call on the University Pension Plan (UPP) to divest from the manufacture of weapons used to commit or facilitate war crimes in the Occupied Palestinian Territory & Sudan www.cjpme.org/who_supports...

“So this is my radical proposal for universities: Act like universities, not like businesses. Spend your endowments. Accept more, not fewer students. Open up your campuses and expand your reach not by buying real estate but by bringing education to communities. Create a base. Become a movement.”
Opinion | This Is How Universities Can Escape Trump’s Trap, if They Dare (Gift Article)
It’s been tried in other countries facing authoritarian crackdowns. It works.

Easy to lose this in the noise of the day, but the prime minister of Canada just said the US president, leader of the global hegemon, wants to soften us up economically so he can annex us.

That is one of the most remarkable statements, and realities, in our history.

I am done with @ondp.bsky.social, @maritstilesndp.bsky.social & the rest of the cronies in this neoliberal party. You've learned nothing from the #KitchenerCentre by-election drubbing. Until this party cleans house and gets back to its roots, you've lost my support. This is a total sham.
I will be running for re-election in Hamilton Centre as an Independent.

You can volunteer with us by making calls, knocking on doors, or donating to the campaign.

Reach out to me and my team at www.hamiltoncentre.ca.

See you at the doors, Hamilton Centre!

Why Did the US Block a Canadian Professor From His Own Book Event?
Nathan Kalman-Lamb was barred entry into the US. This is a harbinger of the dark political future that Trump is ushering in.
